SMG BesTV IPTV Success Story
Shanghai Media Group BesTV IPTV is the world’s largest IPTV system, with systems all around Eastern China including tens of millions of subscribers. In only one month, ChinaNetCloud used a multi-phase project with no down time to optimize their servers to scale to hundreds of millions of hits a day – over 10,000 per second. Through system optimization, NetCloud increased their performance over 100% without purchasing any new hardware.
THE Challenges:
SMG BesTV IPTV had plenty of hardware but their infrastructure system was overloaded and poorly configured, leading to their crashes and instability. Specific problems included:
- Infrastructure needed to be scalable to hundreds of millions of users
- Performance problems were spiking their load every 3 hours
- System was overloaded and needed to be completely reconfigured
- Wrong Linux versions for their hardware
- System needed 24 x 7 server management
The Solutions:
Complete re-installation and reconfiguration of SMG BesTV IPTVs system corrected their overloading and reliability problems. Reconfiguration included:
- NetCloud upgraded SMG BesTV IPTV’s servers one group at a time
- NetCloud reconfigured, optimized and reinstalled each server with no site down time
- Reconfiguration of the system corrected their overloading problems
- Custom built a special source code package which met the needs of their OS Platform
- Combination of two new system tools to work together and solve the SMG BesTV IPTV unique infrastructure problems
The Results:
In only one month, NetCloud reconfigured SMG BesTV IPTV servers and achieved the following:
- SMG BesTV IPTV is able to take a 100% increase in site capacity using the original servers which were overloaded before the project started
- SMG BesTV IPTV can now add new features without crashing system
- SMG BesTV IPTV has asked NetCloud to re-architect their entire country wide system
